The Second Day of Blogging with Students

Posted by: tsbray | January 24, 2008 | No Comment |

Well, well, well… Here I am blogging at the some time the students are. They actually figured it out and seem to be enjoying it. There are conversations going on about layouts, design, other blogs, and writing… All without me driving the discussion. One person is having trouble finding blogs that he is interested in, so two other students are helping him. Three people are discussing the layout of another person’s blog. Everybody is writing and looking for inspiration. We are all listening to Pink Floyd’s Money, and jamming out on our keyboards. Of course, this is the A block and they are open to different methods of instruction.

Class dynamics are incredibly amazing to me. How one class has strengths and weakness simply due to the mix of people in the room. I really must look for some research on the topic. Does anyone know of research done in this area? Please share it if you do.

I’d like to thank Mr. Clay Burell for his ideas and support about the blogging. He has been hitting his head against a wall trying to get more teachers to have students blog, but it took the entire first semester to prepare us (the teachers) for and convince us of the educational power of blogging. Now, with it happening in my classroom, I see that he was correct. I should have started day one; but, there is no sense crying over the lost time. Jumping in and swimming forward from here is the only solution. Also the amazing student blog that Clay sent around as an example has been helpful. All of my students looked at it and freaked out. So I added it to my Blogroll and the link is also here http://tuna.kiswrites.org.
