Why don’t we teach theories of learning to students in school? If the grand purpose of school is to make students life long learners, why is the topic of learning basically left out of curriculum? I have bounced this question off several people and to date not one person has any idea way things are the way they are. If we expect a student to learn something, shouldn’t we share the valuable information that is know about learning? Seems fairly logical to me and the earlier the better. Of course in elementary and in middle school, the concepts would be simplified to some degree, but I’m sure they would benefit from some knowledge about how learning occurs and what learning is for. Certainly high school students must understand some basic principles about learning and knowledge in order to maximize their academic and intellectual abilities.
